Film Dunkirk

The Little Ships & Dunkirk

Talk Starts 18:45

Join us at the Burnham-on-Crouch Museum, for a talk by Nick Skeens, chair of the Vanguard Trust about the Little Ships that went from Burnham-on-Crouch to save the lives of those trapped on the beaches of Dunkirk. The talk will focus on one boat- Vanguard. A locally built Oyster Dredger who rescued over 600 men, working with Seasalter another Burnham boat. Hear the story of this Little Ship, her decline and then her rescue and the mission to restore her to her former glory.

Followed by a private screening of the film Dunkirk (PG12A) in this iconic cinema which is a short walk away.

The Talk is now fully booked but you can come to the cinema to watch Dunkirk.

Wildlife from the Robin's Eye View

Robin Lowry is a passionate wildlife photographer and filmmaker. He has captured fantastic images across the UK and beyond. Join us at this talk where you can wonder at the images taken locally at Wallasea Island, Blue House Farm North Fambridge, Stow Maries Aerodrome and Northey Island. Robin, having also just returned from a trip to Skomer and Grimsey islands filming Puffins.

Wartime Maldon (WWII)

Talk Starts 19:00

Join us for an illustrated talk by Stephen Nunn based on the book ‘Maldon, the Dengie & Battles in the Skies (1939-1945)’. The talk looks at preparations for war on the Home Front, the establishment of Civil Defence Forces, the impact on local people, the role of RAF Bradwell Bay, air incidents and local aircraft crashes. The material is supported by research and aviation archaeology and concludes with surviving evidence of the sacrifice made by Maldon people and VE Day celebrations.

From the Saltmarsh to the Sea

Join us at Burnham Sailing Club where Dawn Smith BEM will be presenting the story of her connection with the local coastline, her love of the water, which also led her to take on the biggest challenge of her life, rowing across the Atlantic Ocean solo and unsupported, to raise awareness about plastic pollution in our waters.
